I appreciate how much of yourself you put into this blog, and how much time and thought you obviously devote to it. (At least, I hope you give it a lot of time and thought; it would pain me to think that you just bang these things out in a few minutes--you know, the way you write jigs.)

I wonder if you've read Andrew Solomon's book on depression, which is also called The Noonday Demon? It's a very detailed and personal study of depression that manages, somehow, not to be depressing.Jennifer Hanshaw Hacketthttp://www.facebook.com/jjhackett?ref=profilenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5593735498783507566.post-21460499279923466002009-06-30T20:49:38.780-04:002009-06-30T20:49:38.780-04:00Scott

I'm currently struggling my way through a bout brought on by the decline and end of my marriage.

Interestingly, the cause for the end of the marriage was destructive behavior on the part of my husband, triggered by his own untreated depression. I can't help but think that had he listened to his own inner voice, had he taken some action to seek treatment, we would still be together. Sadly, I'll never know.

In seeking treatment, in doing the emotional and spiritual work necessary to stay present in your own life, in performing these actions even though it would be so much easier to slip into passivity, you demonstrate to you wife and daughters how important they are to you.

I have enormous respect for that.Peggie MF Kaanhttp://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=homenoreply@blogger.com
